Emmet Square
Originally called Shannon Square, after the Earls of Shannon who were descendants of Richard Boyle. The square was built between 1785 and 1810 for the wealthy merchants of Clonakilty. Today the part is called the Kennedy Gardens after American president John F. Kennedy who was assassinated in 1963. His great grandfather James Hickey was born in Clonakilty and his great grandmother Margaret Field was from Woodfield Clonankilty.
