Protestant Churches in Clonakilty
The first Protestant Church in Clonakilty was built by Sir Richard Boyle - founder of the town - on the same site as the present Church which was rebuilt in 1818 at a cost of £1,459-8-8¼.
Kilnagros Church is first mentioned in the "Regal Visitation" of 1615 when the churches and chancel were stated to be in ruins. They were rebuilt in 1677 but there is no record of the building of the present Church. Kilmalooda Parish is mentioned in the calendar of State Papers (1302 - 1307) so it is safe to assume that a Catholic Church stood there in pre-Reformation days. A Protestant church was built there in 1799 and the present church was built in 1858 by Bence Jones of Lisselane. Further details may be obtained in "The Diocese of Ross, its Bishops, Clergy and Parishes" by C. A. Webster
